Troubleshooting: QR codes and label issues
Common solutions for printing, scanning, and updating your digital wine labels.
•2 min read
Having trouble with your QR codes or digital labels? Here are solutions to the most common issues wineries encounter.
QR code scanning issues
The code won't scan on certain phones
- Resolution - Ensure the QR code has enough contrast. Black on white is best. Avoid dark backgrounds or low-contrast colors like gold on cream
- Resolution - Check the "Quiet Zone". There must be a clear margin around the QR code for scanners to recognize it
The code is too small to scan
- Resolution - We recommend a minimum size of 1cm x 1cm for the QR code on the physical label. Any smaller may be difficult for older smartphone cameras to focus on
Printing and quality
The QR code looks "blurry" when printed
- Resolution - Always use the SVG format for printing. SVGs are vector-based and can be scaled to any size without losing quality. PNGs may pixelate if they are resized by your printer
Which format should I send to my designer?
- SVG - Best for high-quality professional printing and label design
- PNG - Good for digital previews or mockups
Content updates
I updated the wine details, but the QR code didn't change
- Resolution - That's correct! The QR code itself remains the same, but the content it points to updates instantly. You don't need to reprint your labels if you only changed the text on Winetraqr
The page shows old information after I saved changes
- Resolution - Your browser may be showing a cached version of the page. Try refreshing the page or opening it in an "Incognito" or "Private" window to see the latest version
Account and access
I can't find my downloaded QR code
- Resolution - Check your browser's default "Downloads" folder. Files are named using the wine name and vintage (e.g.,
grand-reserve-2022.svg)
